Alpine Adventure for all this Winter

Mount Baw Baw Alpine Resort is preparing for record numbers this winter, offering all visitors from first-time snow-goers to advanced skiers a fun and affordable snow experience at Melbourne’s closest downhill ski resort.

Mount Baw Baw’s smaller scale makes it a big drawcard – accommodation is no more than 100 metres away from the slopes. Solo travellers, families, couples, friends and groups can select from a range of on-mountain accommodation options including self-contained apartments, premium cabins, traditional lodges, and ‘flashpacker’ style accommodation.

Perched at an altitude of 1460 metres, Mount Mt Baw Baw’s Village Restaurant offers a gourmet menu and spectacular views of the snowgum covered slopes and Latrobe Valley. Visitors can dine on Gippsland’s renowned produce and local wines.

Situated at the Southern boundary of the Victorian Alps, Mount Baw Baw boasts over 35 hectares of downhill terrain for all skill levels. With its gentle slopes, Mount Baw Baw claims the mantle as Australia’s best place to learn to ski and snowboard, or reintroduce snow sports to adults after some time away.

Seasoned skiers can enjoy the advanced terrain and slalom racecourse, while avid snowboarders can carve through Mount Baw Baw’s Burton Terrain Park. Night skiing is offered every Saturday evening during the season from 6-8pm, with lift tickets available for just $10. For an alternative to downhill, the mountain also offers over 10 kilometres of cross-country ski trails, weaving through snowgums in one of Victoria’s best pristine natural environments.

Mount Baw Baw’s alpine village charm, community atmosphere and snow activities for non-skiers make it Victoria’s best family friendly mountain. Kids and parents can enjoy a range of activities across three snow play areas including tobogganing, husky dog sledding and show shoeing.

Although Mount Baw Baw is close enough to Melbourne for a day trip – just two-and-a-half hours from the CBD – its affordable accommodation makes it an attractive destination for a weekend away or extended stay, offering something for all budgets and travellers. A number of accommodation options have been newly refurbished, providing a lift to the overall standard of available options.

“Mount Baw Baw has long been the winter destination for so many Victorian families with kids often getting their first snow play and ski experience on our slopes.  We look forward to welcoming families and friends to the mountain this winter, whether it’s for a first-time snow adventure or to learn to ski and snowboard,” said Acting Resort Manager Mal Rowsell.
