Green Gardens in Wellington Shire
Gardeners and all round green thumbs of all types are invited to share their botanical pride and joy with the shire.
Wellington Shire is now calling on all residents who like to get their hands dirty in the garden to take pictures of their patches and submit them to Council’s first ever Green Gardens Competition.
This is a fantastic opportunity for Wellington’s avid gardeners to share the fruits of their labour with the community,” Wellington Shire Council Mayor Carolyn Crossley said.
“Gardening is great exercise and a great way to reduce our carbon footprint.”
Judges for the competition include Royal Botanic Gardens landscape architect Andrew Laidlaw and local gardening enthusiast Heather Harrington.
Gardens of all sizes are eligible to enter, with three different categories on offer attracting first and second prizes for each.
Categories include Best Ornamental Garden, Best Native Garden and Best Edible or Productive Garden.
“This competition has something for all types of gardens, I’m sure many floral, magnificent gardens will be entered,” Wellington Shire Council Mayor Carolyn Crossley said.
“I think Best Native Garden will be a sure favourite too with an array of native flora planted around the municipality to attract native fauna, and some fantastic productive vegetable gardens which can be pretty impressive.”
First prize includes a certificate and a $300 voucher for a nominated store while second prize includes a $100 voucher for a nominated store.
Application forms can be obtained by visiting any of Council’s Customer Service Centres and should be submitted by Friday 6 November 2015 by 5.00pm.
